NURS 206 – Health Assessment |
Course Overview Foundational nursing knowledge and interventions are introduced in the classroom. Time will be spent in the Virtual Learning Center (VLC) perfecting and demonstrating fundamental skills utilized in the clinical setting. The nursing process and its application to a plan of care will be initiated. Health assessment skills will be utilized in combination with beginning nursing skills and care planning in the clinical setting. |

Clinical : Illinois Veterans Home Manteno (as assigned)
Students should check with each instructor to see if his/her lecture can be audio taped; otherwise, no cell phones or beepers, can be turned on during class unless approved by the professor. (Refer to Student Handbook).
Laptop Rule: You may bring your laptop to class, HOWEVER, if you are caught doing anything other than NURS 205 work, the professors have the authority to close the laptop which means you have lost your laptop privileges for the rest of the semester in this course. The professors may alter this privilege if there are too many violations during the semester.

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Combine knowledge from the liberal arts and sciences to the domains of nursing care. (I-A,H,G)
- Identify critical thinking skills to demonstrate competency in performing nursing interventions from selected domains of care; physiologic, behavioral, safety. (I-C,I)
- List and prioritize key factors that influence the choice of nursing interventions. (I-B,C D,I,J)
- Discuss appropriate nursing interventions while assessing and collecting data. (I-C,D,F,I)
- Identify the outcome characteristics of an ONU nursing graduate. (I-E,F)
Clinical Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the learner will:
- Provide care for selected individuals at various levels. (I-J)
- Apply the nursing process when providing care (I-F,I,J)
- Discuss the scientific rationale for clinical interventions (I-C,I)
- Demonstrate Level I psychomotor and interpersonal skills within a clinical setting (I-C,F,J)
- Demonstrate specified skills on skills card prior to clinical experience.(I-J)

Teaching Methods/Format:
Classroom methods include traditional and innovative teaching learning strategies to equip students to be critical thinkers and lifelong learners. Methods include, but are not limited to: reading of assigned classroom texts, independent learning with workbook, lecture, narrated power points, case studies in class and/or online, video quizzes, role play, handouts, exams, written assignments, internet research, and games.
